Wargamer Weekly: 2018

Well, here we are – the final update for 2018. It’s going to be incredibly short and sweet because not a lot has actually happened over this past week, and we imagine you all want to get on with your holiday prep.

Just as an ‘FYI’, we’re going to be operating on a reduced content schedule from now until January 2nd, where business resumes as normal. As such, you can expect features to drop on the following days:

  • Monday 24th
  • Wednesday 26th
  • Friday 28th
  • Monday 31st

We’ve got a couple of 2018 retrospectives – one on table-top, one on computer wargames, a guide to some great wargames you can play with a spouse, and with any luck we’ll have an updated gift guide for anyone who’s gotten some money or vouchers for Christmas.

Meanwhile, in the world of wargaming…

Steel Division II

A new dev diary has dropped at the eleventh hour for those who were hungry for more information. This one focuses on the improvements coming to the turn-based tactical battles – everything from new movement rules, to special ammunition, to new abilities like being able to order tanks to fire while moving.

There’s a lot to digest, and too much for a clean summary, so we highly recommend you give the whole thing a read.

Panzer Corps 2

It’s a double whammy on dev-diaries as Matrix dropped a Christmas Special update for the eagerly awaited Panzer Corps 2.

There’s little of actual substance – Matrix has confirmed the game won’t be releasing in 2018 (and it sounds like it may have been the plan), so those hopes of a December 31st Blitzkrieg release are unfortunately shattered.

Still, they’re reporting the game is developing in the way they’re hoping it would, so we look forward to seeing the final product sometime next year.

Steam Winter Sale

Another big seasonal sale on steam has begun! We’ll probably do a deeper analysis after Christmas on what games are worth looking into, but for example Ian spotted that Graviteam’s Tank Warfare: Tunisia 1943 is 80% off! As is all but the most recent DLC update. What a steal.

That’s all we’ve got time for this week – we wish everyone a happy holidays and we hope you all have a good time. The next Wargamer Weekly will be on January 4th, 2019.
