There’s been a smattering of news regarding new and impending releases in the table-top world over the past week, so we thought we’d share with you some of the highlights. Not going to lie, we need to salute Tabletop Gaming News for the heads-up on a few of these.
Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game
Fantasy Flight Games have announced another model in their 9th wave of ships for X-Wing, where they are experimenting with fire arcs.
Joining The Force Awakens’ Special Forces TIE Fighter, the Star Wars Rebels Shadow Caster & the prequel film’s ARC-170 is the Protectorate Starfighter Expansion Pack for the Scum faction, which you might also recognise from Rebels.
This doesn’t have a special firing arc like the other fighters, but it has the manoeuvrability of a TIE Interceptor and excels at getting up-close and personal. You can read more about it here.
Halo: Ground Command (Pictured)
Being a Halo fan myself, I did hear when Microsoft/343 announced they had partnered with Spartan Games to bring Halo: Fleet Battles to life. Halo: Ground Command however, the 1/100th (15mm) scale wargame that takes the fight planetside, completely slipped under the radar.
Spartan Games have have announced that the ‘Battle for Reach’ set for Ground Command will be shipping this week, having previously announced it would ship sometime in July. Just in the nick of time, then.
You can read up on the full details on the official product page, but it’s currently retailing for £65.
Privateer Press has released images and information regarding the updated Behemoth model they’ve been working on for Warmachine. The original model ceased being available for purchase at the beginning of the month, but this new resin & white metal version will be available tomorrow.
Finally, if you have more money than sense you can head on over to Forge World and pre-order these (admittedly gorgeous) new models for the Tau Faction.
You have the Barracuda AX-5-2 multi-role fighter, which will set you back £80. You can even buy a pair and re-enact the Tau version of Top Gun for £160.
Lastly, for a whopping £247 you can pre-order the Tau Experimental Battlesuit Cadre, which comes with one XV107 R’Varna Battlesuit, one XV109 Y’Vahra Battlesuit, one XV9 Battlesuit with twin linked burst cannon, one XV9 Battlesuit with phased ion guns, and one XV9 Battlesuit with fusion cascades.
As a parting (and experimental) gesture, we’ve also found a few wargame-related Kickstarters that might be of interest. BUYER BEWARE Please research the risks and costs of backing a project on Kickstarter before you pledge any money. We’re not making any kind of recommendation here, just highlighting some cool things we’ve seen:
Miniature Wargaming: The Movie
This kickstarter from Joseph Piddington still has 12 days to go, and is already £5000 over it’s funding goal. A documentary film, this project will explore “breath-taking stories” from the world of tabletop miniatures, and will feature companies like Steamforged Games, Wargames Illustrated, Warlord Games, Battle Foam, MiniWarGaming, Hawk Games, as well as house-hold names like Rick Priestley, Alan & Michael Perry, John Stallard and Paul Sawyer.
This is a “sci-fi dogfighting” tabletop wargame… so probably more like X-Wing than anything else, from Nottingham-based White Dragon Miniatures.
It’s got only five days to go, but is sitting comfortably over it’s funding goal. You’ll need to pledge at least £32 to get any miniatures, and that’s with the Early-bird option. At time of writing, there were 34 left on that tier.
2GM Tactics Wargame & Expansion
This is card-and-counter based wargame set in World War II that was originally published in Spain in 2015. It was a good enough success that US-based Draco Ideas now wants to print an English version, including the two expansions that cover campaigns in North Africa and the Eastern Front.
The project has only just started as it’s got 25 days left, and yet it’s already raised nearly double of what it was asking for. Worth keeping an eye on by all accounts, and it’s also EU friendly!
