War Child UK charity to celebrate Day of the Girl with special panel and steam sale

The UK-based charity War Child UK, which specialises in trying to assist children affected by conflict across the globe, is hosting a special panel next week to mark the UN-recognised International Day of the Girl.

The ‘Game of the Girl‘ panel will be held on October 7th, 2020 at 12pm BST, and will be an all-female panel of experts from across the gaming industry with the purpose of talking about the experiences of women in this field.

It will be hosted by comedian and games journalist Ellie Gibson, who will be joined by Anita Wong from PR firm Indigo Pearl, Izzy Jagan from games publisher Square Enix, Jade King from Trusted Reviews and Imogen Mellor from GamingBible.

International Day of the Girl is a UN ratified day that focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights. War Child UK supports this with its fundraising campaigns to provide protection, education, and livelihood opportunities for children and communities affected by war, including supporting girls on the issues that most affect them such as early marriage, girls’ education, and girls’ rights.

This hour-long panel will also coincide with a week-long Steam sale event, which will feature games that feature female protagonists or generally celebrate strong female representation. All games will be discounted, with a percentage of proceeds going towards supporting children affected by conflict.

This virtual event will be hosted over Zoom between 12-1pm BST on October 7th. You can sign up to the event here.
