Warhammer 40,000 Battle Forge enters beta on mobile, free for a month

You may remember that Games Workshop launched an official mobile companion app for Warhammer 40,000 at the launch of 9th Edition earlier this year. Designed to be an all-in-one reference and utility tool, it can hold all of the officially released material for Warhammer 40,000, both legacy content and up-and-coming new codex books as they get released.

It also promised to house a fully-functional army builder tool, something that would allow you to experiment and create army lists and check legality. That functionality wasn’t present at launch, but as of today the app has been updated with Battle Forge on both iOS and Android. Better yet, it’s free for a month.

Battle Forge is officially still in beta, so this isn’t the final release but all the basic functionality you’d expect is there; you can add detachments and populate them with units, customise wargear and other options, and crucially check that everything is legal for use in matched play events. It also tallies up all of the point/power costs for you.

Beyond that you can export the army list, either to social media or print it off to take to physical matches.

Like most of the Warhammer 40K app functionality, Battle Forge is technically only available to subscribers. Games Workshop are giving away a month for free though to help collect feedback on the beta. This will give you access to the Battle Forge, as well as the full library of the currently released official rulebooks as digital pdfs.
